If you do not have your Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, you should give it serious consideration. If you are a veteran, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) may pay for your PMP exam prep class and related exam fees.
As you may be aware, the GI Bill itself will not pay for exam prep classes, but will, apparently, if you want to deal with the paperwork, cover the cost of the certification exam fee. The VA does, though, through their Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment (VR&E) program, pay for both the class and the exam, sometimes even travel, lodging, and per diem.
What is the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and is it worth getting? The PMP certification is a valuable job qualifier and increasingly required for program and project management roles. Government RFPs often say PMP preferred, so contractors promise program and project managers will be certified PMP. PMI reports 20% higher income for certificate holders over their non-certified counterparts.
How does this work? You have lots of training options–a small number of training companies, like ours, are U.S. owned and veteran owned. Many others are not veterans, and too many are not even U.S. companies. As a veteran, if you want to explore using VR&E funding, then you need to deal with a training company approved by the VA. Our company is.
Find a class and schedule that works for you. We have 100% live classes, a critically important consideration. Don’t waste your time with recorded classes wherein you cannot discuss the content or ask questions! We, as example, have 100% live online classes that run weekday mornings, weekday days, weekday evenings, and weekends. We also, as further example, have in-person bootcamp classes around the U.S. that typically run Monday through Thursday daytime.
In our case, and other training companies may be different, to use the VR&E funding program, register for the class that fits your schedule best. Select Invoice instead of making a direct payment. From there we or you need to reach out to a VA counselor to get the class and invoice approved.
We are happy to help, contact us with any questions.
Best regards, Matthew President/CEO
